So, it's the holidays, and everyone is feeling just a little "nutty". Especially when we are all trying to find that perfect snack for family and friends during holiday gatherings. If you noticed the word "nutty" in quotes earlier, good for you. You're observant.

Over the years, my mother amassed quite a collection of hand me down recipes from family and friends, and one that we enjoyed quite often during the Christmas season was a recipe for Sweet and Spicy Nuts (which may also be used as a Tinder dating profile headline).

SWEET AND SPICY NUTS

4-5       CUPS OF A MIXTURE OF WHOLE ALMONDS, PECAN HALVES, WALNUT HALVES

1          CUP SUGAR

4          TBS. BUTTER

½         TSP. CINNAMON

½         TSP. CUMIN

¼ - ½   TSP. CAYENNE PEPPER

1          TBSP. VANILLA

Line baking sheet with buttered foil.

Combine butter, sugar, and spices in heavy skillet.  Cook over medium/medium high heat, carefully stirring regularly, about 9 minutes or until sugar melts and turns a rich brown color.  (Mixture may splatter).  Remove from heat.  Immediately stir in vanilla.  Spread nuts on the prepared baking sheet.  Cool completely.  Break into clusters.  Store tightly covered.

Note:  You can use any combination of nuts also.  When my mom made them, she had to cook them on medium high heat for about 20 -  25 minutes, or whatever doneness you prefer. Here in Texas, you can also try any combination of rubs or seasonings you prefer.

This is one of the best recipes I have ever had for candied nuts. Trust me, you'll want these nuts in your mouth!

Wait, what's so funny?
