
JCPenney Sells 119 Stores Nationwide Including More Than 20 in Texas
JCPenney just made a big sale.
JCPenney is selling more than 100 stores across the nation to a private equity firm for $947 million dollars in cash. More than 20 of those stores that have been sold are located in Texas according to a report from NBCDFW.
The deal is scheduled to be completed this fall. So what does it mean for JCPenney and JCPenney in Texas?
Which JCPenney Stores in Texas Were Sold?
According to NBCDFW and Newmark, 21 JCPenney stores were sold in Texas. You can see the approximate store locations here. According to NBCDFW, at least 3 North Texas locations were part of the sale.
Will Any JCPenney Location Close?
As of right now, all 119 locations remain open, but the future of those stores remains unclear. If they become profitable, they may remain open. Nothing will probably be known until the sale goes through in the fall.
JCPenney declared bankruptcy years ago and has been struggling to survive since. JCPenney was once a popular department store throughout the United States. But customers changing habits and trends along with online shopping has impacted the business greatly.
Earlier in 2025, JCPenney did announce the closure of some locations, but non were located in Texas.
