The City of Lubbock has recently alerted the public that Citibus is implementing a new fare structure with increased rates for certain services.
It's important to know that general fixed route fares are unaffected. These still are listed at $1 per trip.
What actually is changing is the price for Paratransit and On-Demand services. Beginning Jan.1, 2026, these will be the new prices for each, according to the City of Lubbock website:
Paratransit
- Trips beginning or ending within three quarters of a mile on a fixed route - $2 per trip
- Trips beginning or ending within three quarters of a mile but within two miles on a fixed route - $5 per trip
- Trips beginning or ending outside two miles of a fixed route within the city of Lubbock - $10 per trip
On-Demand
- Trips under two miles - $2
- Trips of two to four miles - $5

What are On-Demand Citibus Services?
The Citibus website describes their On-Demand services similar to rideshares that prioritize assistance for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and Medicaid approved travelers.
Citibus On-Demand began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a means for making travel easier for those requiring more assistance.
By downloading the Citibus Access app, riders in Lubbock can pick a time to be picked up and share a ride with others who are heading in the same direction.
For a more generalized smartphone app for public transportation outside of Lubbock, you can always download the GoPass app and follow the steps for transportation assistance wherever you may live.
