A man was arrested for evading police, among other charges, after he broke through the fence at Midland International Airport and drove on the runway, halting planes and engaging police in a chase.

The Arrest of Randy Gutierrez

On Tuesday, Midland Police Department responded to a vehicle evading police and fleeing from a crash. 29-year-old Randy Lee Gutierrez was operating a white Ford pickup truck that was reported stolen from a nearby parking lot. Just minutes after it was stolen, Gutierrez crashed the truck at the intersection of Big Spring and Missouri before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.

Luckily for police, the stolen truck had a GPS tracker on it, and Midland PD was able to pinpoint the location of the fleeing vehicle.

As officials were in pursuit, Gutierrez drove the truck towards Midland International Airport. It was here where he continued to plow through the bordering fence and onto the runway.

Following an attempt to flee on foot, Gutierrez was apprehended by a combined effort of both Midland PD and airport officials.

The airfield was reportedly shut down for some time and one plane had its landing delayed as a result of the chase.

Gutierrez was then arrested and charged with two counts of evading in a motor vehicle and one count each of evading arrest, duty on striking a fixture, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

As of this date, there is no bond listed for any of Gutierrez's charges as he is held at the Midland County Sherriff's Office.
