My wife and I love traveling to Ruidoso, New Mexico. It's a relatively short 4 hour drive from Lubbock and once you hit that mountain air, you just know the drive was worth it. And for those who enjoying skiing, you all know that Ski Apache is a popular destination.

When we are able to get to Ruidoso, we are like many others in that we like to go when it warms up in Texas. We also enjoy going during the early Fall and we have been a couple of times for the town's Christmas parade. No matter when we go, we enjoy relaxing and enjoy nature. There is just something great about renting a cabin and having some coffee on the porch in the morning with that cool mountain air.

Grabbing breakfast at Lincoln County Grill and of course a pizza one night from Cafe Rio is always on the agenda.

As you can tell, we and many others enjoy visiting Ruidoso, New Mexico, but right now isn't the time to go.

Ruidoso and the people who live there have been dealing with devastating wildfires and terrible flooding. And that has led the town to ask visitors to delay their trips and come back another time. The Facebook page for the Village of Ruidoso posted on Monday asking visitors to come back later as they work to recover from the fires and flooding.

You see, Ruidoso is a pretty small place and they being stretched thin. Add in a bunch of tourist during the summer vacation and resources get even thinner, especially if there are more flooding rains or a fire. Right now, they need to focus on the citizens of Ruidoso and rebuilding. Then, they will be ready to welcome back visitors. Of course this will be tough on businesses in Ruidoso who rely on tourism to keep them in business. This is a tough time for everyone in Ruidoso, so keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

And when they are ready for visitors again, go visit and spend some money.
