Huge Meth Bust at Texas Border Crossing: $6.7M Seized
In a massive drug bust, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized nearly seven million dollars in methamphetamine before it could enter Texas, but that's not all they found.
Major Drug Seizure in Texas
Leave it to Pharr, Texas, to always have the action when it comes to drug shipments. They're back at it again with this huge bust at the Pharr International Bridge Port of Entry.
Officers at this border town stopped a tractor-trailer coming from Mexico that was a little too suspicious for them to allow through. They sent this semi-truck to secondary inspection where a canine team was used to sniff out any illegal activity.
Upon looking further inside the truck, CBP officers discovered 166 packages of what they believed to be meth weighing a total of 753.98 pounds.
The estimated street value of all 166 packages of methamphetamine totaled a whopping $6,740,100.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez emphasized the risk that large vehicles pose for smuggling illegal drugs and goods:
The cargo environment continues to be a top choice for trafficking organizations, but our CBP officers along with our tools and technology are a force to be reckoned with.
Additional Fugitive Arrested by CBP
This massive drug seizure happened at the same time that CBP officers apprehended a wanted U.S. citizen for capital murder.
31-year-old Alan Alexis Ornelas was arriving to the Hidalgo International Bridge Port of Entry from Mexico when officers immediately noticed he matched an arrest warrant.
After confirming his identity, Ornelas was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail where he waits for his trial. Ornelas has been wanted since September of 2024 for the first-degree felony of capital murder by terror.
