Massive Texas Utility Company Is Hiring 800 Employees by 2030
Houston-based CenterPoint Energy has recently implemented $53 billion in long-term investments for the next 10 years. This decision is due to the rapidly-expanding growth of Houston's work force.
CenterPoint's Massive Hiring Announcement
Included in these efforts are job fairs led by CenterPoint, regional development networks, and the creation of a new skill-based workforce development program to build the next generation of electric workers.
By the end of 2025, CenterPoint plans on hiring 200 additional lineworkers. This number rises to nearly 800 by 2030.
In order to meet the needs of the company's 2.8 million customers, CenterPoint expects the growing energy demand in the Houston area to increase by nearly 50% by 2031.
More About CenterPoint Energy, Inc.
This multi-state electric and natural gas delivery company, headquartered in Houston, is currently serving approximately 7 million customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas, according to their recent news release.
Currently, CenterPoint operates with roughly 8,300 employees and has been in business for over 150 years.
CenterPoint Senior Vice President of Electric Business Darin Carroll stated his support and how much of an impact this $53 billion investment project will have on the State of Texas:
We are investing in resiliency and grid hardening projects that will support the unprecedented growth expected here over the next ten years. To deliver on these investments safely, quickly, and efficiently, our workforce will need to grow at an accelerated pace.
CenterPoint's Reputation in Texas
CenterPoint has gained distrust as an energy company ever since their handling of Hurricane Beryl in 2024 where over 2.6 million Texans lost power for days during the summer.
Many residents and lawmakers turned their attention to CenterPoint for their failure to adequately prepare for the incoming storm. Texas AG Ken Paxton even led an investigation into the company to discover what led to their alleged mistakes.
This massive shift to hiring more employees to better serve Texas is one way the company is seeking to remind their customers of their commitment to and betterment of their energy needs moving forward.
