Churches Aplenty, Churches Galore! Texas Counties With The Most Places You Can Go To Church
Church is a big deal in the great state of Texas.
No matter what color your skin or what part of Texas you're from...chances are that you have an early memory of getting dressed in your Sunday best. It should come as no surprise that there's plenty of churches to choose from in the Lone Star state.
But some places in Texas have more places to attend church than others. So, where exactly can we find a church on every corner--literally?
A quick consult with a Texas Counties resource turns up the results. Along with the number of churches, I've listed the ratio of church-to-population.
10. Jefferson County
This southeastern Texas county is where you'll find the city of Beaumont. There's 388 churches there at a ratio of 1:650.
9. Denton County
The seventh-most populous county in Texas has 436 churches at a ratio of 1:1520.
8. Collin County
This county is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metroplex and the county seat is McKinney. There are 485 churches at a ratio of 1:1613.
7. El Paso County
El Paso County boasts 485 churches, same as Collin County, with a ratio of 1:1651.
6. Travis County
Located in the Texas hill country, Travis County has 670 churches at a ratio of 1:1529.
5. Hidalgo County
McAllen is the county seat of Hidalgo County and has 677 churches at a ratio of 1:1144
4. Bexar County
San Antonio fills up Bexar County, as does 1,189 churches at a ratio of 1:1442.
3. Tarrant County
There are 1,695 churches in Tarrant County at a ratio of 1:1067
2. Dallas County
You'll have 2,336 churches to choose from in Dallas county at a ratio of 1:1014
1. Harris County
And the single Texas county with the most places for worship goes to.....Harris County! In Houston, you'll have a whopping 3,031 churches to choose from at a ratio of 1:1350.
