When we look back on our childhood, most of those memories include our grandparents. There is just something about Texas grandparents. Our grandparents always owned something unique, or that special piece of furniture we vividly remember napping on or sitting for family pictures.

As children, we usually don't have a say in what happens to our grandparents' possessions once they move or pass on.  However, some of those things live in our heads rent-free.

Amarillo Woman on Mission to Find Her Grandmother's Antique Couch

Carly Bueno recently took to social media on a mission to find a red antique couch that belonged to her grandmother.

Growing up, my Grammy, Lynette Carter, had a bold red antique couch and matching chair that she originally got from The Big Texan

Now that her Grammy, Lynette Carter, has passed, she is looking for this couch that fills so many of her memories.

She is looking for this couch and a matching chair, but unfortunately, she doesn't have a picture of the chair.

After posting to Facebook, the internet worked its magic, and she was able to find the person who originally purchased the couch from her grandmother.

It was the same couch where I opened Christmas presents with my Grammy as a kid went on to live a very different life… as a boudoir prop.

That's quite a different use from Carly's childhood memories; it sure was a perfect use for boudoir photography in its next life.

From Christmas memories to corsets, turns out my innocent childhood couch had a glow-up.

That person moved out of the area nine years ago and sold the couch and chair set. It's believed the furniture was purchased by someone in either Borger or Dumas, with plans to have it reupholstered. Unfortunately, there are no records of who the set was sold to, only the possible location.

Carly is back to step 1 in the search for the couch.

How the Antique Red Couch Changed Hands Over the Years

  • Grammy purchased the set from The Big Texan (who knew The Big Texan sold furniture)
  • Grammy sold the set between 2008-2012 to Trinnie De La Cruz
  • De La Cruz then sold it between 2015-2016 to someone in Borger or Dumas

Carly is willing to buy these furniture pieces back if they can be located, even if they were reupholstered.  She wants the set to remember her Grammy and make new memories with her family.

How You Can Help Carly Reunite With the Couch

We would love to see Carly's dream of having her Grammy's couch back in the family.

I understand Carly's mission.  My grandmother always had this beautiful buffet in her living room.  She stored some of her most precious items, and after she moved due to her age, it was sold.  I was too young to ask to keep it. Fast forward 20 years, I just happened to walk into an antique/jerky shop outside of Wichita Falls, and there was the buffet.  I knew it was hers because it still had my childhood scribbles inside the door.
At the time, I didn't have the obscene amount of money to buy it back or a truck to get it home.  But in that moment, it brought back those warm memories.  I may or may not have teared up in that moment.
That's the moment we want Carly to relive. Let's help her out.
