Lubbock Man Charged with Murder in Overnight Stabbing

Lubbock police have made an arrest in an overnight murder.

Authorities say John Allen (20) has been charged with murder and booked in to the Lubbock County Jail.

Around 1:40 a.m. Thursday morning (Jan. 14), Lubbock police responded to the report of a stabbing victim at a University Medical Center Emergency Room.

Police learned that Zachary Kafer (20) was stabbed in an altercation at Mesquites Bar and Grill in the 2400 block of Broadway.

The victim was taken by personal vehicle to UMC, where he would eventually succumb to his wounds.

Detectives were called to the scene of the stabbing, and were able to identify Allen as a suspect.

Allen was later arrested at U-Loft Apartments in the 1000 block of University Avenue.

Lubbock police continue to investigate.
