Lubbock, I love you, but you also drive me crazy sometimes.

Recently, I went to see Weapons (which I highly recommend, 10/10), but the real horror story was the jerks sitting in front of me.

Common Movie Theater Etiquette Rules Everyone Should Follow

If someone can not handle sitting through a movie that they paid nearly $15 to see without constantly looking at their phone, everyone else is begging you to stay home.

Not only is everyone around that person assuming they have the intelligence and attention span of a guppy, but the bright screen is incredibly distracting, particularly during a movie with many dark scenes, like a horror movie.

It is okay to squeak or gasp when you're scared, or laugh when something is funny or surprising. Having a conversation with the person next to you or making loud, obnoxious comments is not okay. Especially during a film with many quiet moments, like a horror movie.

It is also rude to open packaging loudly, come in very late, block the screen, or bring a small child to a horror movie. Seriously, why do people do the latter?

Simple Ways to Be More Considerate at the Movies

You can be a nice, normal human in three simple steps.

Sit down

Shut up

Watch the movie

There is nothing to say about a movie that can't wait until it's over. If you must occasionally check your phone for some reason, quietly duck down, walk out, and check it in the lobby. Wait until a louder moment in the film to rustle open your Twizzlers.

If you need a place to be social with friends outside of your home, that's what bars and coffee shops are for. For many of us, we like to lose ourselves in the universe of the film we are watching, not hear someone's (always very obvious and stupid) observations about the movie.

The truth is, movie theaters would be more full if they were a more enjoyable experience for everyone. So let's help our theaters out, and you get the bonus of me not kicking the back of your chair because you won't shut up.
