Texas Tech's former QB had nothing but respect for Texas Tech's brand new QB.

Following Alan Bowman's record-setting performance Saturday against the University of Houston Cougars, current Kansas City Chiefs gunslinger and ex-Texas Tech star Patrick Mahomes gushed on Twitter about what he saw from the true freshman.

"The bowman kid can throw the football," Mahomes tweeted during the game. And later, once Bowman broke a record previously held by Mahomes himself, the always-classy NFL quarterback offered his congratulations:

But the good news for Alan Bowman didn't stop there. Sunday, Bowman was named Walter Camp National Player of the Week for his stellar performance. And the sheer amount of stats (per Texas Tech University) surrounding the clinic he put on are staggering:

  • It marked the most by a FBS quarterback so far in the 2018 season.
  • It was just six passing yards shy of breaking a record set in 1988 by Nevada’s David Neill.
  • It was just the third time ever in FBS history where a freshman threw for 600 yards.
  • It was the 18th time in FBS history where a quarterback threw for 600 yards.
  • It was the 5th time in FBS history where a Texas Tech quarterback threw for 600 yards. (Patrick Mahomes, B.J. Symons, Graham Harrell and Cody Hodges are the other four to do this.)
  • It broke Patrick Mahomes' Big 12 and Texas Tech freshman records.
  • It's just the sixth time in history where a Red Raider earned the Walter Camp National Player of the Week award.

And in other news of Texas Tech football stars turned NFL pros dropping praise, DeAndre Washington, who was a standout running back for the Red Raiders before being drafted by the Oakland Raiders, tweeted kudos to Red Raider running back Ta'Zhawn Henry.

Henry got the game ball on Saturday after doing something for Texas Tech no one else has done since Washington:
