Pour One Out: Lubbock’s Loveliest Cocktail Bar Calls It Quits
July 29, 2023, was a day full of heart-bursting love.
My honey and I attended a beautiful West Texas backyard wedding in our best boots and watched our gorgeous, hilarious friends marry each other through the tears in our eyes.
That night we gathered at Bodine's Cocktail Parlor (1717 Crickets Ave) and took advantage of the ample patio to catch the West Texas breeze.
Instagram "drank" first- I posted my cocktail with its attached baby's breath- a lovely little detail perfect on a day of love. That's my cocktail from that night pictured above.
Countless Lubbock folks have made similar memories at Bodine's—from bachelorette parties to birthdays and anniversaries. It's a memory-making place.
And sadly, it will soon be a memory itself- as Bodine's Cocktail Parlour is closing.
Owner Matthew Layton posted a heartfelt and eloquent message about the decision on Facebook.
Layton cited the reasons for closing Bodine's are "numerous" and, "rather than dwell on each of them individually, I instead choose to stand in awe of them collectively and concede."
Layton also stated that he has more hospitality projects and opportunities ahead, and that he would keep his followers posted.
Bodine's will be open for another couple of weeks, so we can all get a few more memories in.
Saturday 11/02/24 is the last HURRAH! We have a couple of nights of great live music left, and several nights of bittersweet “see ya soons” coming over the next two weeks and I sincerely hope you’ll swing by and have one last tipple, or three, to help us pay the taxman before we turn off the glow of the pink neon sign, and retire the invitation to #drinkPRETTY for good.
Best of luck on your next endeavors, and cheers to the memory of a West Texas original, Bodine's.
