Corey Taylor's new Slipknot identity was revealed last month when they released the video for "Unsainted." Whether maggots are fond of the Tom Savini-created mask or not, it's here to stay. One fan has shared a powerful and emotional story explaining his attachment to the mask, as detailed in a post on the Slipknot reddit forum titled "Corey's mask - not what you're thinking."

"I don't know if this has been pointed out yet, my apologies if so. I've been seeing the back and forth on his new mask, some love it, some don't. I get it," the post begins. "I personally love it for reasons I have not noticed pointed out by others yet. Corey's mask is a REALLY close comparison to a mask I had to wear for almost two years called a TFO, a transparent facial orthosis."

The fan continues telling a story about a house fire he was caught in at five years old. The individual suffered third-degree burns to his face and had to have several skin grafts to repair the skin. Depending on the severity of the damage to the skin, a transparent mask may need to be worn on the face to assist in the healing by reducing swelling and preventing further injury to the scar tissue.

Taylor's mask apparently looks similar to the mask this man had to wear after suffering the burns.

The fan describes the influx of emotions he felt when he first saw Taylor's mask in the "Unsainted" video. "All of it. The shirt I was wearing melted to my body. All my hair gone. Looking down at my pink and black skin peeling arms...The teasing, rock throwing, the exclusion. The Freddy Kruger references. The healing. The normalization. The self pity. The realization. The acceptance. The determination."

"Corey's mask may not be what some wanted, but to me its a massive image of character change and reformation. The breaking of a person and the steps required to be better," he affirms.

A few hours after the post appeared on the forum, someone sent Taylor the link on Twitter, in which he replied how "humbled" he was.
