A certain branch of criticism against the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie back when it came out in 2011 focused on the fact that this was the first one with barely a trace of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, two characters we’d all grown to love through a trilogy of movies, and, arguably, who are the actual heart and soul of the series. Without them, On Stranger Tides felt adrift, unable to find an emotional focus despite introducing a new generation of generically attractive leads. The good news for those of us who have stuck with the series this far is, thanks to the new international trailer, we know Elizabeth is coming back too. Along with a few more of Captain Jack’s “friends.”
There are a lot of ghost pirates in these Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The newest film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, centers on a whole new crew of spectral baddies (led by Javier Bardem) on the hunt for Johnny Depp’s most famous creation, Captain Jack Sparrow. Will he prevail? Well, dull, yes he will. He’s the one whose face is in the actual Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
Any series that traffics in severed heads long enough will invariably get creative with their molds, as did a recent Walking Dead episode that saw Johnny Depp’s face making an unexpected cameo. Well, purveyor of all weird memorabilia, Norman Reedus evidently kept the celebrity trophy for himself.
I guess this is the first time "The Lone Ranger" actually gets second billing to "Tonto". Then again, in this movie "Tonto" is Johnny Depp. In this go around the Lone Ranger evidently takes on the railroad, or defends the railroad or just jumps around on the railroad, I'm not real sure. More after the break.
At a "Dark Shadows" movie premiere party in LA the other night, Alice Cooper and his band were the house band. Alice actually has a small part in the movie, which is why his band was there. So Johnny got up on stage to jam with his friend.
In my house, the excite-o-meter for "Dark Shadows" is at full on stiffy! We just barely remember the show from when we were little kids, so we have pretty fond memories of it. We of course were too young to notice the bad production values and bizarre story lines. The new movie seems to borrow just the basic premise, and adds a healthy dose of comedy. We've got another look at the mo
Johnny Depp stars as Barnabus Collins in the movie "Dark Shadows." The movie is based on a long running horror soap opera of the same name. That's not what I noticed about this picture.
The first thing I noticed is that it would be VERY painful to get a prostate exam from Depp. The next thing I noticed is his similarity to another VERY famous vampire.
