A West Texas Soundtrack You Didn’t Know You Already Had
Forget Spotify — if you've lived in Lubbock or West Texas for long enough, you already know the soundtrack by heart. It's not Buddy Holly, and it's not George Strait. Nope. I'm talking about everyday noises that weave in and out of your earholes without you even really noticing: your neighbor's sprinkler system ticking away while you check the mail in your bathrobe, cicada screaming like tiny little buzzsaws, the train horn that makes you question how close you built your house to the tracks, or even the stubborn slow clanking of a pumpjack in the distance...
It's a symphony only those of us from West Texas come to appreciate, and whether you realize it or not, it's always playing.
The Soundtrack To West Texas
Here are a few of my favorite jams on the soundtrack to our lives here in West Texas:

It's More Than "Noise"
Outsiders might chalk these sounds up to background noises, nature, or they may even think of them as an annoyance. But, for those of us around this area, they are the beautiful music of our landscape. They are memory markers, sounds of comfort, and a playlist that follows us everywhere we go. You don't just hear West Texas, you actually feel it, and no matter where you go, some part of you will always miss the music you loved back home.
