Zombie Attack At Art Walk

I like to 'stir it up' once in a while. One of my favorites was the 'zombie marching band' we entered in the '4th on Broadway' parade a few years back. It wasn't appreciated by some, but most saw the fun and sense of humor in it.  Read more after the break.

US Open Spectator Spotted With Sock in His Mouth [PICTURE]

Concessions at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York are notoriously pricey, but that’s still no good reason for fans attending the US Open to chow down on their own socks for nourishment.

A Deadspin reader snapped this photo during Donald Young’s straight set victory over Juan Ignacio Chela at the Open on Sunday. Other possible reasons for this baffling display would be it’s some kind of good luck charm for the spectator’s favored player, or it’s an ode to former UNLV basketball coach, and rabid towel muncher, Jerry Tarkanian.

Vogue Model’s Shocking 13-Inch Waist Causes Stir [PICTURE]

There’s been a lot of controversy lately over models whose photos are airbrushed to make them appear ridiculously thin, but Vogue Italia can at least say the cover of its September issue didn’t involve any digital tricks.

That’s Stella Tennant, an actual real-live model. In a corset. That gives her a 13-inch waist.

Shark Swims Down Puerto Rico Street [PICTURE]

As Hurricane Irene nears the East coast, there’s been talk of evacuating below-sea-level areas from Florida all the way to New England. If you’ve got a fear of flooding, it’ll only be bolstered by this horrifying photo out of water-logged Puerto Rico. In the shot taken from a car, a shark can be clearly seen swimming down the highway, like something out of a terrible Samuel L. Jackson movie.

NYC Man Gets ‘Survived the Quake’ Tattoo on His Torso [PICTURE]

So you survived the great Northeast earthquake of 2011, now what? You’re going to want people to know you were there when it all went down. How about a tattoo?

That might sound a bit too permanent, but that’s exactly what Jonathan Berg of Brooklyn got on his torso the day after the quake. Tattoo artist Joe Khay of Citizen Ink in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn originally advertised the tattoo he designed as a joke on Facebook, but people actually ended up taking him up on the offer.

Colossus of Rhodes, Blindfold Charlie Rock Wreckers (8-19-11) [PICS]

Colossus of Rhodes, Blindfold Charlie, Another day Undecided and Skies Over Paris took turns rattling the walls at WRECKERS Friday night (8-19-11). A nice crowd came out to show support for our local musicians, and all four bands made it well worth the time invested. Add to the great music, the low ticket price and even lower priced drinks made for an excellent evening of rock and roll! (PHOTOS follow the jump.)

Angry Mom Hires Plane to Fly Nasty Message Over Wall Street

At lunchtime on Tuesday, New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan were treated to an unusual sight — a small plane buzzing by the Standard and Poor’s building, towing a banner that read, “Thanks For The Downgrade: You Should All Be Fired.”

Commissioned by St. Louis banker and single mother Lucy Nobbe, who paid $895 to hire the pilot, the fly-by was a reaction to the US losing its longtime AAA credit rating last Friday.

World’s Smallest Origami Sculptures are Truly Amazing [PICTURES]

Origami, the Japanese art of folding paper, is impressive enough on its own, let alone when it’s done in miniature form. Yet that’s what artist Anja Markiewicz does, creating amazingly tiny sculptures of things like animals and snowflakes out of paper less than an inch in width.

Artists Makes Real People Look Like Paintings – And the Effect Is Way Eerie [PICTURES]

How would you react if a painting suddenly came to life? Alexa Meade‘s painted people look like works of art but move like humans — making for an eerie sight.

Whereas most artists would just paint their subjects on a canvas, Meade actually turns her subjects INTO the canvas. She creates life-size installations that are shockingly exact in their similarity to actual acrylic paintings. Upon first glance it’s almost impossible to tell that there are real people under all that paint.

Kristen Stewart Unrecognizably Sexy on W Magazine Cover [PICTURE]

Twilight‘ beauty Kristen Stewart is nearly unrecognizable on the cover of W Magazine’s annual Fashion Issue.

Indeed, the normally reserved 21-year-old actress is in full-on glam mode on the retro ’60s cover, complete with smoky eyes, big hair and seductive pink lips. It’s arguably the best she’s looked in … well, maybe ever.
