Fully Posted Kurt Cobain Wallet Note Offers New Perspective

Kurt Cobain Letter
Grungebook Tumblr

Earlier this week, the Seattle Police Department released a note that was found in Kurt Cobain‘s wallet at the time of his death, but the note that was posted was not the full missive.

Grungebook has now posted the full, hand-written note, which offers a somewhat different view on the tone of the letter than the partially posted message. The original piece that was offered by the police, when read, appeared as though Cobain himself was mocking his wedding vows in a rather sarcastic and biting tone.

The lines initially posted read, “Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife, even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all [your] money for doping and whoring …” But after reading the rest of the note, which reads, “Will you promise to f— her at least once a week, O.K.,” it adds a different perspective to it and even offers the possibility that the note was penned by Love in a self-depracating manner. In fact, author Mark Yarm, who wrote the book ‘Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge,’ states that Love apparently wrote the note in a tweet.

The remainder of the note also reveals that the message was penned on a San Francisco hotel’s stationary, suggesting it was written during a getaway for the couple. See the full note above.

Cobain passed on April 5, 1994 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Seattle Police Department also recently release a number of Kurt Cobain death scene photos, a few of which can be seen by clicking the button below.
