How Fat Are Texans Compared to Other State Residents?
The Gallup-Healthways State of American Well-Being 2014 Obesity Rankings are out, and obesity is still on the rise affecting 27.7 percent. So how did Texas fare?
Texas did not fare so well. We're the 13th fattest state in the country! If there's any solace to this, we did beat out our neighbors Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.
The report says for the second year in a row, Mississippi ranks as the fattest state in the nation with 35.2 percent qualifying as obese. Not to mention the national rate of obesity was 27.7 percent in 2014, up from 27.1 percent in 2013 and significantly above the 25.5 percent recorded in 2008.
According to the report the top five leanest states were Hawaii, Colorado, Montana, California and Massachusetts. At the bottom were Mississippi and West Virginia, plus our neighbors Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
