As the Sprint Cup season gets longer in the tooth, we're seeing who is really a contender and who was bluffing. Jeff Gordon is certainly up there; in fact, he's now at the apex of the standings.

Leading Dale Earnhardt Jr. by a meager three points, Gordon has had his best season in years and the #24 team shows no signs of stopping. All eight cylinders seem to be pumping strong and that fact was also on display today regarding the Pure Michigan 400.

In my opinion it was one of the better Michigan races I've seen in a long time, as Gordon held off Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Paul Menard, who had a great day, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Next week, it's one of the season's best weekends; Bristol and Saturday night mix just right.
