Deadpool, by his very nature as a mercenary, assassin, and general pain-in-the-butt, doesn’t play very well with others. For most of his comic book life, he’s been separated from the rest of the Marvel Universe, although in recent years he has become an unlikely member of teams like X-Force, the Thunderbolts, and even the Avengers. His first movie, Deadpool, was similarly shut off, not just from the Marvel Cinematic Universe but most of the X-Men Cinematic Universe. Apart from appearances from Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Deadpool stood alone.

Ryan Reynolds’ wish for a proper Deadpool and Wolverine crossover movie may never come true, but the actor has apparently achieved something pretty close with a small cameo in Logan. According to a new report, the actor recently filmed a scene for Hugh Jackman’s final bow as Wolverine, though it’s unclear if we’ll actually see the two characters share the screen when Logan hits theaters next spring.

Celebrities really are just like us — well, Ryan Reynolds is, anyway. Like you, he also wants to see Deadpool and Wolverine reunite on the big screen, this time for a much better film. It took several years, but the tenacious actor’s commitment to getting a proper Deadpool movie off the ground finally paid off (in a huge way), which has Reynolds thinking that maybe it’s time for the Merc With the Mouth and Old Man Logan to get the band back together.

Not long after director Tim Miller exited the Deadpool sequel over creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, reports revealed the reason behind the split: Miller, a VFX pro, wanted to make a more polished (and more expensive) sequel, while Reynolds (and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) wanted to stick to the scrappy (and less expensive) style that made the first film such a hit. Now, with John Wick co-director David Leitch at the helm, Reynolds and producer Simon Kinberg have offered a quick update on Deadpool 2, including words of praise for Leitch and a promise to make sure the sequel is in keeping with its predecessor.

'I called Connor, 'Bubba'. And he called me 'Bubba2'. We met because he loved Deadpool," Reynolds wrote in a touching tribute to 13-year-old Connor McGrath.

Three days before Deadpool even hit theaters, word got around that Fox was already developing a sequel with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning. Since then we’ve heard a lot about what to expect from the sequel (Cable, mostly) despite the fact that Fox had yet to make an official announcement. That changed today at CinemaCon, of course, where the studio made it all very officially official, confirming the return of both Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller for Deadpool 2.

Before Deadpool even had a chance to obliterate records at the box office over the weekend, Fox had already given the green light for a sequel, while Ryan Reynolds has been teasing the appearance of fellow comic book character Cable in the next film. Tim Miller’s R-rated adaptation of the beloved, foul-mouthed superhero was on track to make $60 million at the box office this weekend, but Deadpool is now expected to top that estimate as it has already begun breaking box office records for February. The Merc With a Mouth’s first solo outing is primed for the biggest R-rated movie opening of all time, as well as the biggest opening for a film released in the month of February.

We’re still waiting for more of an official update on what trailers we can expect to see during this year’s Super Bowl, but there’s one film that will definitely have a big presence at the game. Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With the Mouth will be on hand for the 2016 Super Bowl on February 7, with Fox planning some special preview content to run during and around the game. In addition, the studio has released a new clip, featuring Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead packing a serious punch.

It’s a toxic fad in the world of movie promotion and one we hope goes away quickly, but we couldn’t resist sharing this trailer for a trailer for Deadpool.
