What an incredible 2001 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards ended the 2011 "Race for the Chase" tied with 2403 points each, with Stewart winning the Championship in a tie-breaker by virtue of his 5 wins in the last 10 races. It was the first time in NASCAR history that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship ended in a tie.

Stewart, passed 76 cars in the race to get to the front and held off Edwards who would finish the race in second place. The win at Homestead-Miami Speedway gives "Smoke" his 3rd NASCAR Championship and he becomes the first owner/driver to win the Championship since Alan Kulwicki did it in 1992. With the victory Stewart takes home a check for $5,662,800.

Jeff Gordon finished the Chase in 8th position.

NASCAR roars back to life on February 26,2012 at The Daytona 500.
