It's important from the onset that you know that nearly everybody who went to the concert billed as "The FMX Spring Breakdown" had a great time.   Our goal is to make sure 100% of the people have a good time. With that said, there's only so much we can do until after the fact.

Heathen and I always come across these laws like "it is illegal to beat up a gorilla in a public square". It's funny, but you have to remember, that those laws are in effect because some apparently tried to beat up a gorilla in a public square. Now, no way would we dream of a law like that being necessary until it happened. Well, no way would think to ask whether someone would charge a minor fee at a concert venue.  It doesn't even compute to me.  Concerts should be simple.  You buy a ticket. That ticket gets you into the show.  That's it.

KFMX had "dropped" this show two weeks ago due to a disagreement with the promoter and moved on.  We kept just enough info on the air to keep listeners up to speed.  We actually weren't at this show "as a radio station".  Rooster went by early since he was friends with the bands and did some updates, but "FMX", our vehicle and our "official station presence" was out at Backstage Live (formerly Melt). It's also important to mention that KFMX gets a few advertising bucks on these shows and some ticket giveaways, but we get no extra money due to any charges, merch sales, parking fees or even amount of people who show up.  This means that every dime we make off a concert was or is made weeks or months before a concert every happens and that's it.

I had actually dropped by the venue to reimburse my caretaker for some purchases he had made for the haunted houses. We decided to go see if any of our security or sheriff friends were working when we were stopped by the arm band guys.  This DID NOT make me happy, but everybody was already in the show.

As we were talking to our friends Rooster came up to our group and asked a couple of big guys to pitch in an help reinforce and hold the barrier at the front of the stage.

Now I wrote about my frustrations that evening and of course everyone involved is pointing at each other like a Canadian firing squad.  At the end of the night I got a commitment from the venue that there would be no more minor charges at the Pavilion or the Amp.  I had Din Productions (who bring most shows, but not this one) call and protest any minor charges added to their shows.  I also had to deal with a half dozen little asswipes trying to brush all of this off (deleted/banned/see ya).  There is also the pissed off moms and friends of minors who dropped them off at shows who want to take their frustrations out on the radio station, even though we had nothing to do with these last minute charges or half ass technical issues.

All we can do is "not promote shows" with the flaky people (and that group could include anyone from any group that is part of of putting on a show).  We can also not predict that next dumbass thing someone will try to do, because dumbasses tend to be really creative.

In the end, it has to come to you, the concert goer either making a stand or bringing these issues up to some of us who may or may not be able to help.  A ticket, especially one that doesn't say "additional fees may apply", should get you into a show. Period. Done. End of story.
