A protest that was supposed to happen Saturday morning at the Target in Lubbock was called off thanks to some upstanding citizens who stood up for equality.

I stopped by the Target this morning to see if the protest would happen and to counter-protest it. I had my signs ready and was prepared to make sure a voice of reason was heard outside the store.

It turns out, the man organizing the protest backed out and canceled it after receiving some angry messages on Facebook. Turns out some people in Lubbock don't like their family and friends being bullied for no good reason, which tends to happen at these protests.

The minute these people were called out on their protest, they backed down.

One of the people who called out the protesters was a man whose wife works at the Target. Apparently, this woman comes home in tears because she's confronted and yelled at over the company's policy to be inclusive and not discriminate.

If you're not aware, Target issued a statement in April saying it would follow the Equality Act and not discriminate against LGBT people in its stores. It reads in part:

We believe that everyone—every team member, every guest, and every community—deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally. Consistent with this belief, Target supports the federal Equality Act, which provides protections to LGBT individuals, and opposes action that enables discrimination.

Lubbock won't stand for this sort of hate, and it's time to put the Facebook balls away.
