I'm at that stage with The Freaky Tiki Tavern where its time to get permits. I spent the better part of the day Monday going from office to office and I can detail the good and the bad for you right now.

The good is simple. The people are awesome. Everyone was really cool in the city and county offices that I visited. Even though we were all hit with a cold blast that would make anyone a grump, everyone was helpful and understanding.

As for the bad, the maze of paperwork that these good people have to help you negotiate.  Its crazy how the system is set up. It really is like you've seen on t.v. You go to get one form signed, but then they tell you you have to have another form completed before they can get that form filled out and before those forms can be filled out, you have to have three other people sign off on another form, and so on and so one. It kind of feels like every time you open a door, you have to go through two more.

So I wanted to take a moment to give a high five to all of those city and county employees who can still smile and be patient as they help the rest of us negotiate the bureaucracy that someone else created. I'm glad I'm dealing with this in Lubbock.
