Hooray, there will be no fireworks ban in Lubbock County this year!

Lubbock's Emergency Management Coordinator sent out a press release Monday morning stating the following:

"there WILL NOT be any mandatory restriction on the sale or use of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Lubbock County for the 2018 Fourth of July Fireworks Season"

Now keep in mind, this doesn't change the facts that fireworks in the city are still illegal. We were also reminded that a burn ban is in effect.

Apparently, Lubbock is dry, but did not quite meet the drought conditions that would have meant an all-out ban on fireworks. Since we're close but not quite there, fireworks retailers are being asked to voluntarily refrain from selling missiles with fins and rockets. Texas law allows fireworks to be sold beginning on June 24th.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July, Lubbock!
