I saw something come over my Facebook feed the other day that I found a bit surprising. A young lady had just found out that Meatloaf went to L.C.U. Most of you already knew this, but we all have to remember that there are some new Lubbockites out there as well as people who missed some fun stuff about the city.  So with that in mind, I have a few little random factoids for ya.

*The Clash visited Buddy Holly's grave.  After meeting up with Joe Ely and playing a show at a club called "The Rox", the Clash made a trip out to the Lubbock Cemetery to visit Buddy's grave. The band placed pics on the grave, which were promptly picked up by Clash fans that followed them out there.

*The City Of Lubbock tore down the two largest, best live music venue the Hub City ever had, and relocated the Buddy Holly Statue on top of the property. This, my friends, is called "irony". There have been many reasons given for why those clubs went under, but it's still seems like there was a bit of rush to take them down.

*The Jim Rose Circus was shut down and several performers arrested or detained in the Hub City. The Circus was several routines in, including one where a mostly topless young lady walked on machetes, when Jim Rose announced an act called "Mexican Transvestite Wrestling".  Two men in Luchadore masks and wearing giant rubber dongs wrestled with the "winner" being the one who put the wiener in the other guys mouth.  The men scuffled for a bit, then Rose could be heard offstage (still on mic) saying "c'mon, are you serious" and a few other choice words before the place was shut down.

*Sam Kinison found a way to get around Lubbock's strict liquor laws. Comedian Sam Kinison liked to party and when he was in the mood, no one could stop him. After a show in Lubbock Sam was raring to go, one problem, the Strip had closed for the night. So Sam, ever the quick thinker, had a brainstorm. He called the local Limo company and got a Limo with a fully stocked bar.

*Dokken goes punk rocking'.  Okay, but was that one of the best headlines ever? So anyways, Judas Priest and Dokken had just played a show over at the Lubbock Coliseum afterwards we all headed over to a club called Abbey Road where legendary punker Wendy O. Williams was playing a show. I looked behind me in the beer line and George Lynch was standing there, so I grabbed an extra cup and said to him "hey, let's go the front".  He said "why" and I said "because that's where you'd want people to be if you were playing here". George and I watched from one person back as Wendy O. clubbed lucky punkers over the head with her mic.  We then got ripped for most of the night in a hotel room.
