Today (August 20) would have been our good friend Dimebag Darrell Abbott's 49th birthday. There are almost too many stories about Dimebag to tell.

I can tell you that one time we had The FMX Birthday Bash at South Beach and The Depot Warehouse and while I was checking out the retro side with April Wine, I looked over and Dimebag was standing right next to me singing "Sign Of The Gypsy Queen."

We celebrate Dimebag's birthday every year with a little announcement he made for us and a Pantera or Damageplan track at the top of the hour. It makes for some hard radio.

Some people can't hang when we do it. To them we say, please tune in tomorrow.

Dimebag did a lot for Lubbock, but the most important thing he ever did was just be cool to the people who live here. It's crazy to think of what Lubbock would be like had both Dimebag and Dave Williams had lived. We truly had two great spokesmen for this town and for FMX back in the day.

Getcha Pull! Here's where you can get some Dimebag gear.

Here's a short video that features Dimebag playing a short passage of the song "Still Got The Blues."
