I'm not Dr. Phil, and I don't claim to be. I, like many of you, are dealing with many mixed emotions relating to the mass murder in Orlando.

So, was it a "mass murder" or was it a "terrorist act"? It doesn't matter, and neither do many of the topics people will try to bring up at this time.

It was a tremendous, pointless loss of life and for now, that is all that matters. What type of firearm the shooter used doesn't matter. What the President said and what his critics say doesn't matter. These are all off-topic matters. What matters is that 50 people died, many more are injured and there are a lot of families and people around the world hurting.

I hope you'll watch the video I've added to this. I don't have clear answers and I'm as conflicted as anybody. I want to lash out, but I don't want to give the trolls the oxygen they need to survive. I think we need to stand up and tell the gay community that we are with them and that they have our sympathy and support.

Once the shock of it all has worn off, I think we need to take steps to make sure that we curb the hatred out there spread by some of our politicians and religious leaders.

I've learned quite a bit about debating over the years and the number one thing is to "stay on point." I think sympathy and a pledge to not let this happen again are "on point."
