In This Moment frontwoman Maria Brink recently called in to KFMX to talk about the band's Black Widow tour, the band's evolution and how the haters inspire her.

It wasn't always big tour buses and sold-out shows for In This Moment.

"In the beginning it was just us booking our own shows, making $50 a show, driving in a van all over the country, playing the shows we booked through our non-existent booking agent," said Brink. "Back then, we were definitely struggling."

In This Moment has definitely changed since the band's creation. Brink touched on her own evolution as a frontwoman and how it changed the band.

"I can see myself almost mature and grow as a vocalist and artist and I can hear the songs changing. It's like I grew up almost," said Brink. "But I am a woman now, and 'Black Widow' is definitely more the woman side of myself."

One thing that hasn't changed for the singer, however, is how she deals with the haters.

"We don't care about anybody's scenes or anybody's music genres, or who other people think we're supposed to sound like," she revealed. "We're truly following our hearts in what we want to create, what we want to do and really try to keep that freedom attached to us."

Brink has even used the haters' words against them, letting their venom help fuel the creation of the "Black Widow" track "Sex Metal Barbie."

The more successful your band becomes, the more people will hate you. - Maria Brink

"The more successful your band becomes, the more people will hate you," she admitted. "I've come to learn as long as people are talking about you -- whether or not it's hateful or bad or good or positive -- they're talking about you. Even if somebody comes to our show and they hate it so much they can't walk away, they're just captivated and they take pictures of it because they hate it so much and then they show all their friends [and say] 'I hate this band so much.'"

Haters gonna hate, but Brink kept it positive, adding that the fans are the "whole entire reason" the band does what it does.

"They believe in us, they're part of the journey with us," she said. "We know so many fans by first name that have been with us for eight years. Our fans are everything for us."

In This Moment's "Black Widow" tour hits Lubbock, Texas December 11. [More info]
