I pulled up a recording of Hannibal on my T.V. and there was so much trash on the screen that I dumped out and went to On Demand. Seriously, what's the point of all of this stuff?

So this doesn't have to do with any particular t.v. station, because they all do it. On this screen you can see the big live weather radar, and NBC logo watermark and a message about a "live tweet-a-long".  When I went to On Demand, I had none of this, not even the NBC watermark.  With a show as cinematic as Hannibal, I'll never go back to a local recording again. You know who loses in this?  Local advertisers. In fact, even though the On Demand version doesn't allow Fast Forward, the show with network commercials in it was only 46 minutes long.

Do you find it necessary to have the weather radar constantly on the t.v? Wouldn't it be okay if it only popped up once in a while and/or when an absolute emergency is afoot.  The fact is, that t.v. stations do these things because people want them. I, myself, don't want them. I want to watch the t.v. show.  I guess the "tweet-a-long" is just symptomatic of folks with a.d.d. that can't just sit and watch a show. At least it went away after about ten seconds.  It is really getting to the point where the t.v. show plays second fiddle to all the other nonsense on the screen.
