The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce got some unexpected push back for their decision to join a lawsuit fighting against a new U.S. Department of Labor overtime law.

The Chamber released a statement against the new overtime rules on their Facebook page, and let's just say things did not go well at all. In fact, there was little to no positive feedback in the thread.

Then I got busy and wasn't able to cover this story when it first started on Thursday, September 29. Well, I go back to the Chamber's Facebook thread a few days later to look at the comments and, lo and behold, most of them were gone. I'd say 90 percent of what I initially saw on the post had disappeared. The post now had a grand total of nine Likes in nearly a week, and the comments appear to have been cut down to four.

Now, we delete negative stuff on the FMX Facebook page from time to time (hate speech and the like), but we aren't making public policy or joining any lawsuits that affect people's paychecks.

I don't know the full ins and outs of the new overtime law. I'll admit that. I will say that anytime ANYTHING is proposed that helps working men and women, business folks start screaming bloody murder. Well, I think we owe it to those people who fought (and some died) for the 40-hour work week and benefits to at least look at these things closer.  The same claims of "killing business" were made then, and we did OK for a long, long time

Sorry, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, but Lubbock peeps aren't down with your actions.
