Lubbock Reacts: Destruction of Historic Goldbold Cultural Center

Demolition of Lubbock's Historic Goldbold Cultural Center, located just across 19th street from the Texas Tech campus, began yesterday. Several attempts were made over the years to save the Godbold Cultural Center, but unfortunately, they were not successful. The destruction of the building has been met with a mix of emotions from locals who held it dear. It was a very special place.

Seeing a piece of Lubbock's history destroyed seems to have everyone in town feeling bummed. I've been reading through lots of comments on social media about its demolition and one theme is clear: It was truly adored.

Here are a few I came across that struck me the most:

"My son was one of the last babies born there in 1962. Its had an interesting history. Sad to see it gone."

"Corporatists do not value historical structures in Lubbock. How many does this make? I've lost count!!"

"Gonna build another parking lot I guess."
