The Lubbock City Council will consider a plan for a minor league ballpark. I don't care about baseball. I will never go to a game. But I still believe we should consider building it.

We all know how finances work. It's simple. You pay your bills, you save a bit and you invest a bit if you can. It's time to invest a bit in Lubbock in hopes of keeping the city moving forward.

Prudence is the key word here. Such funding would probably come from the hotel/motel tax and we have to be careful not to over do that. The fact of the matter is, Lubbock is a tourist destination; it's just the tourists come to shop and not necessarily to see attractions.

If I good balance could be struck, we could end up with more tourists going to attractions and more money circulating in our local economy.

So baseball? Well, let's look at this simply. I'm not a fan, but it's one of the cheapest sports to put out there. So what about past attempts? Well, we've had baseball, hockey and football and they've all failed. None of that matters, because a new facility could be used for multiple purposes, including rentals for tournaments.

It's important that Lubbock steps up and becomes the home of something. We need an identity. With Texas Tech here, we have a huge contingent of sports fans, so another attempt at minor league sports makes a lot of sense.

Let's do this, or just do something!
