Is a woman "asking for it" if she is dressed a certain way, or if she's had too much to drink? This is the kind of nonsense that Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde is claiming in a recent interview.

Let's put it this way: if a guy drinks too much, is he asking to be raped? If he's running around with his ass crack showing, should you squeeze his package? The answer is no. Let's quash this right now. No woman or man is "asking for it" by the way they dress or act. This is the kind of nonsense that keeps rapes from being reported and gives rapists an excuse for their vile actions.

In an interview to publicize an autobiography, Hynde is quoted as saying: "if you don’t want to entice a rapist, don’t wear high heels so you can’t run from him.” Hynde herself is a victim of rape.

This is just one of the comments that puts the onus on the victim and not where it belongs: on the attacker.

We've all heard stories from the Middle East of women being stoned for showing too much skin and thought 'oh, how barbaric.' This is NO different. I am very sensitive to what Hynde has gone through, but victims should never be blamed for sexual assaults.

No woman is enticing anyone to make them their victim. There is one person responsible for rapes, and that is the evil scum that commits the crimes.
