I'm going with probably the right thing here. I've been saying for quite a while that we need to quit burning people at the stake when they make a mistake. This 'one and done' that's been going on is a bit much.

Now you would think that with an Emergency Management Coordinator, you'd want somebody who is an expert on making split-second decisions.

This was not the case when Lubbock County's Emergency Management Coordinator Clinton Thetford  posted a picture of Elmer Fudd shooting the President in the face on his personal Facebook page.

True, in Bugs Bunny cartoons a shot to the face is a way to embarrass -- and not kill -- people. But it was enough to get the guy a visit from the Secret Service.

You also have to wonder about a guy who best expresses his political opinions with Looney Toons Cartoons.

Sheriff Kelly Rowe released a statement saying "appropriate direction and disciplinary action was taken with him to ensure this or any similar incident does not occur in the future"

This is how most of these mistakes should be handled. Just running people out of town doesn't help in most cases. At least this man was given a chance to learn from his mistake. I hope he realizes that he dodged a bullet here and that a representative of Lubbock, even off-duty, is held to higher standards than the general public.
