What if people really did keep New Years Resolutions?  Well first, there would be a lot of skinny people that got fit. So let's assume that that one was 'one and done' for last year and look at some other resolutions that might make you a better person from the inside.

Get Involved.  The world needs more doers. Not only does your community need you, maybe there's some type of team or craft club that would benefit from your presence. You are never too old to make new friends and do new things. We are currently in a time of great apathy and your initiative can really make a difference in motivating yourself and others.

Be Courteous. Are you really in such a hurry that you can't let another car merge in? Do you really think being rude to the person helping you on the phone is the best course of action? Small acts of kindness will absolutely make someone's day and they may also make your day.

Be Kind To Animals. Yes, my favorite cause. Animals can't improve the situation they're in. Dogs don't get picked up by animal control because they robbed liquor stores and cats don't over-breed because they drank too much at the club and got horny.  Help a lost pet. Foster a pet.  And if you're up to your ears in adoptions,  just give whatever time and money you can to places that care for unwanted animals.

Have Empathy For Others. You really don't know what road people have traveled. There are chemical reasons for some people having a hard time and there are others that are suffered a great loss. There are those who have been abused and those who really can't catch a break due to the situations life has put them in. If you can, just for a moment, try to consider what made or is making another person sad, mad or different, then it might go along way to repairing whatever is wrong with them.

Be Thankful. People and the universe at large seem to respond when you take the time for thanking them for their small contributions to your daily life. Not only that, but sometimes when it seems like you have nothing, thinking about what you are thankful for helps you put things in perspective.  For instance, you may think you have nothing, but you're reading this on a computer or phone aren't you? Meanwhile, while you're complaining, there's a guy in the jungle squeezing leaves for a drop of water.

Be Awesome To Everyone And Everything. It's not just my tagline, it's a way of life. Take the old adage "Do unto others a you would have done unto you" and change it to a more modern and more inspirational "Treat others BETTER than you would expect to be treated".

So I'm no lifestyle expert and I have to degree in psychology, but there's not a downside to any of these suggestions. Take one of these ideas and run with it, at least for a little bit and you'll make yourself a better person and the world a better place.
