I try not to review movies that are "out of my genre" which would be horror.  I also would always to take what anybody says with a grain of salt, because if you enjoy it, it's good.  I'm going to step out just a little bit and say that Super 8 is a great movie, and you probably should have seen it in theaters.  More after the jump.

There was something special about Steven Spielberg movies back in the day.  Every scene looked like it could have been made out of a bunch of gorgeous still pictures. You cared about the characters and there was some depth and magic about his movies.  Well, the "Spielberg" touch is evident on Super 8 although he only serves as the producer.  Directing the movie is "Lost" creator J.J. Abrams.  What these two guys know is, it isn't about the monster, it's about the people affected by the monster. Now keeping that in mind, the monster is still impressive even if you never see it "full on".  You get to see a bunch of glimpses of it from various angles, and for some reason that makes the monster seem even more real.

I'm not going to give anything away about this movie.  Just know that this is a great story and beautiful on a HD T.V.  It's got lots of things that "go boom" but not at the expense of the storytelling. The bottom line is, in my opinion, this is as good as movie making gets.
