Things change. The times change and metal has changed. Way back in the 60's, metal was starting to take form through blistering guitar riffs and darker lyrics made famous by the likes of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, UFO, BOC and Judas Priest. This new style of music opened up the doors, not only for future musicians, but for the people of the world.

When we broke into the 80's, this is prolly the most important decade in metal because of the diversity in metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, ACDC, Accept, Dio, Megadeth, Ozzy and Motley Crue. The message was the same, but the metal had evolved into thrash metal, speed metal and glam metal.

The 90's came upon us and we almost lost the metal flag to grunge, but there was a band that flew the metal flag and carried us through the 90's by the name of Pantera. We also saw a new form of metal being molded with bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Suffocation, Death and Sepultura.  Also we saw the nu metal genre forming bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Union Underground, Rammstein, and of course, a band called Slipknot.

As the turn of the century grabbed us, we once again saw an evolution in metal. Bands like Drowning Pool, Disturbed and Killswitch Engage took the radio by storm. As for the underground metal scene, it was more than alive and kicking.Deathcore was taking form and death metal found its home here in America. These Deathcore bands include Job For A Cowboy, White Chapel , Born Of Osiris, Carnifexand the list goes on and on.

The point of this whole thing is that no matter the band, the music has evolved into what we hear now. All these bands are tied together from what started way back in the 60's. Just because you can't understand what the vocals are and just compare similar guitar riffs that you heard in the 80's, doesn't change the message of metal. Of course there are similarities in the music, it's called inspiration. As for the lyrics, if you enjoy horror movies and zombies eating people then death metal might be for you. Don't say that it's crap music because, as your parents said in the 80's, "That's the most awful music, turn it down!" Here it is, 2011, and you're now taking the form of your parents if it's too loud turn it down.

Metal will always keep evolving.  I'm totally sure that when I'm in my 50's I'll defend the metal. The reason that metal rocks is because it is a culmination of the past 50 years of aggression, angst, and a big ASS mosh pit. If you can't understand why we mosh, then you're missing the entire message of what metal has come to today. It's stood the test of time and it'll be here long after we're gone. It will be here in it's new form, forming to the needs of it's new generation of metal heads.

See ya in the pit.
