Who else just goes about their daily business and doesn't think about Lubbock as a whole?

Forget tourists, there's stuff here that you should personally experience and in many cases pass on to your kids. Sure, there's a "whole world out there" but there's also a whole world right here in Lubbock. Have a look, then have a visit to some of these great places.

The Buddy Holly Museum And Statue

It's been a crazy ride with Lubbock and Buddy Holly. When I first moved to Texas I could not believe that no one was making a big deal about Buddy, even worse, there seemed to be some hard feelings of some sort. Then the city went a little overboard trying to wring a little bit of celebrity out of him for tourism uses.  I don't get either of those feelings at The Buddy Holly Center and statue. It's a pure memorial to a great musician and man with no agenda. Plus, what's not to like about looking at rock and roll pictures, guitars and stuff?

    Lubbock Lake Historical Landmark

Right here, in your own backyard, is a fossil history over 12,000 years old. Exploration began in the 1940's and continues with the help of Texas Tech today. There's more than just a big hole in the ground though, there's cool statues and other attractions that all point to the historical and archaeological significance of the site.

    Visit Hell's Gates

There are those who consider a "rite of passage" and others who just like plain creepy stuff. I think telling you stories would just be that, and everyone has a different one.  I guess I'll let my friend Jacqui tell you more in her video.

    The Ranching Heritage Center

Believe it or not, the first ever organized "staff" pics we ever took for FMX, we took at the Ranching Heritage Center. I'm not big into the old west or even nostalgic things, but I just found a trip out there to be really fun. I guess kids might get bored, until they see the trains. You can literally feel the history coming off the buildings when you visit.

    The Veteran's War Memorial

It's more than just a sign of respect to visit the Veteran's Memorial. It's sobering and it's also a celebration of those who served. If you don't watch out you'll run the gamut of emotions too. The Memorial is mainly made up of bricks that were purchased with family members names who served. To me, that is the impressive part of the memorial. I'm proud to say I have many family members as part of the wall.

Visit "The Other Side" Of Town

This isn't a "cop out", in fact it's the thought that inspired this entire list. We tend to spend all of our time worrying about all of the problems in the worlds and many people never venture out past their own neighborhood. Get in your car, point it in a direction you've never been and just check out all of the business, places and things you never knew we had.
