When it comes to classic rock and metal acts from the '70s and '80s, there are two sides of the musical fence. On one side, some legacy acts continue to churn out new records, performing their newest hits live in addition to the classics and on the other side, those who choose to stay out of the studio. Twisted Sister's Jay Jay French recently condemned artists who release new music and take the album on the road, calling them "idiots."

The founding guitarist spoke about the band's legacy and their '40 and F--k It' farewell tour with Goldmine. The conversation shifted toward bands like Scorpions announcing farewell tours, but seemingly unable to commit and truly say goodbye. French weighed in on this and how it compares to Twisted Sister's current mindset, stating, "And Dee [Snider] doesn’t write anymore and that’s another problem, too. He refuses to write and the band doesn’t really feel like recording, so you’re not putting product out there. Not that anybody buys it. I mean, let’s be honest. Any classic band that releases a new record is an idiot for playing it."

Expanding on this notion, French continued, "I mean, they can justify it all they want but no one cares. Let me tell you, you’re a bunch of stupid fools if you think that anyone gives a s--t. They don’t. They say they do but they don’t. Which is why most of these classic bands make a new album, go out on a tour, start out with five songs from the new record, after a few weeks there are two songs and then they just want to play that one new song and get it over with. Because no one knows it and no one gives a s--t about it, and they’re delusional to think they do."

The guitarist didn't stop there, calling out bands who have altered their classic material, exclaiming, "Another delusional thing is, let’s alter the arrangements and be hip. No one gives a s--t about that either. If you’re a great entertainer, you’ll give them exactly what they want to hear, exactly how they want to hear it. That’s what great entertainers do. Idiot entertainers don’t do that."

Twisted Sister's last full length release of original material was 1987's ill-fated Love Is for Suckers with Still Hungry, a re-recording of the band's classic Stay Hungry, and A Twisted Christmas, a collection of Christmas classics, released in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

French's words are peculiar considering the number of classic acts still releasing new records and regularly charting high on the Billboard 200 like Megadeth's Dystopia (No. 3) and Anthrax's For All Kings (No. 9).
