A police officer on the highway in Mansfield, Texas was in the right place at the right time to save a choking woman's life with the Heimlich maneuver. Had it not been for him, she may not have made it.

She was heading down the highway, chewing a piece of gum, when a passing motorist scared her, causing her to inhale her gum accidentally. She continued to drive and tried her best to breathe with it stuck in her throat, but she couldn't get it out. She turned on her 4-way flashers, which alerted the police officer in traffic next to her. He threw his lights on behind her and they both pulled off onto the shoulder. He realized something was wrong when she abruptly exited the vehicle and came directly toward him, gesturing at her throat.

Choking on something can be truly terrifying, especially when you're all alone.

Once, when I was little, I choked on a peppermint while home alone. I'm so glad I paid attention at school because I remembered them teaching us how to dislodge something stuck in your throat by throwing yourself against the back of the couch. There wasn't a couch near me, but the kitchen counter did the trick.

Choking causes around 5000 deaths in the United States each year. If your kids aren't familiar with the Heimlich maneuver, or what to do if they happen to be alone while choking, you can find the instructions here.

Thanks to this awesome police officer for saving the day!

The only time I want a cop behind me in traffic with their lights on is in a situation like this...
