What Is That Facebook “Do Not Comply” Meme All About?

I guess if you keep saying, "The boogeyman is out there" eventually he'll be out there.

If you spend any time on social media, you may run across an ominous-looking meme. The times I've seen it featured it has a stark black background with this message on it:

Whatever Happens Next, Do Not Comply

Scary right? So what's going to happen? Are we going to be rounded up, given the mark of the beast, or be asked to separate our recyclables? Maybe it's something even more sinister and terrible.

I was able to get to the bottom of it, with a trip over to Reddit. It seems that there are people who think another lockdown is coming. Specifically, this is what the Redditor said:

"whackadoodles think another covid lockdown is going to occur soon-sboger"

Of course, since this is the internet, the conversation digressed to the point of who was the whackadoodle, but let's boil this down a bit.

There IS a new COVID variant out there but it doesn't appear to be much worse than the stuff that is out there. There is also a vaccine for this one scheduled for late September/early October.

I'd say the chances of there being another lockdown are even less than slim to none. We have found ways (vaccines and treatment) to protect the more vulnerable among us. Anyone who wishes to go against the science at this point is welcome to try their luck. I doubt anyone will be asked to "comply" with anything, anytime in the near future.
