Friday morning the weather report called for a "chance of snow."

In most places a weather forecast calling for "a chance of snow" isn't a big deal.

But for some reason here in Lubbock those words cause area residents to panic and rush to local stores to stock up on everything from diapers and wipes to bottles of water and every single thing in between.

Yesterday afternoon,I had to run into a local big box store to pick up two items for an event I was attending Friday night and what should have been a quick in and out purchase ended up taking over half an hour.

Why you might ask, well because everyone and their grandmother was in there buying carts full of water, bread, lunch meat, candles, space heaters, blankets and everything else imaginable.

I kid you not, when I say shelves were being cleared.

I swear no matter how long I live here I will never understand that mentality, I hope those of you who bought 14 packages of toilet paper, 43 loaves of bread, 72 packages of cheese, and 89 gallons of water are enjoying all the snow we received.
