Dee Snider Dedicates ‘We’re Not Gonna Take it’ to Striking Teachers
Dee Snider returned to the Great White Way earlier this week joining “Rocktopia” at the Broadway Theatre in New York City. The singer belted out the Twisted Sister hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and dedicated the tune to the striking teachers in Oklahoma. See the video above.
In the clip, Snider walks out on stage and says “This one's for all the teachers out there tonight." The vocalist delivered an energetic performance of the song, which is being used as a rallying cry for the teachers who are currently on strike for a second straight week in Oklahoma.
Last week, Snider tweeted his support of the teachers noting the irony writing, “While I totally support underpaid teacher's cause, it is kind of weird that a song that was on the ‘Filthy 15’ is now every oppressed groups battle cry.”
The Twisted Sister frontman, who previously starred on Broadway in “Rock of Ages,” will appear in “Rocktopia” through April 15. The show blends the use of classical music with classic rock covering Led Zeppelin, U2, and The Who, as well as Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky with a five-piece rock band, a 20-piece orchestra and a 30-person choir.
Following Snider’s run, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick will appear in the show’s final week between April 23 – 29. For more info about “Rocktopia" click here.
