Ghost React to Rihanna’s Pope Outfit: ‘Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery’
Is Rihanna hopping on the musical Popemobile now that Papa Emeritus I, II and III are dead? At this year’s Met Gala, the pop star wore an outfit strangely similar to the Papa bloodline, and Ghost “thanked” Rihanna for her accidental Papa tribute, adding, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
Since we know nothing about fashion beyond black t-shirts and battle vests, we visited The New York Times for an accurate description of Rihanna’s outfit. “She wore a white beaded Margiela corset mini dress under a full skirt, with a beaded bishop’s hat to match. The outfit was accessorized with a pearl anklet and a bejeweled crucifix necklace,” the Times writes.
We’re sure this thing cost a crap-ton of money, but three different Papa Emeritus’ have been nailing this look since 2010, and with a little more tact. However, Ghost took the opportunity to grab some elegant footage of Rihanna in her Papal outfit, setting it to “Rats” and releasing it via Instagram.
Wonderfully played, as usual, for Ghost. The band also asked Twitter who wore it best, with Papa Emeritus III winning by a substantial margin.
Ghost’s fourth studio album, Prequelle, will be released June 1.
