Human Trafficking Nightmare: Police Say Texas Man Tried to Prostitute 8-Year-Old Child
A Texas man is facing a felony charge of prostitution of a person younger than 18 years of age after allegedly attempting to prostitute an 8-year-old child over the internet.
Dorian Frost, 27, of Grayson County (north of Dallas) was arrested Wednesday, July 7th, 2021, and is currently being held with a $350,000 bond. He's been charged with promotion of prostitution of a person younger than 18 years of age
After a cursory search of Texas statutes, it appears that Frost is facing at least a second-degree felony and could face 2-20 years in prison:
Second degree felony if the person solicited is younger than 18 (regardless of whether the perpetrator knew at the time); if the perpetrator believed the person solicited was younger than 18; for pimping the services of someone younger than 18; for compelling a child younger than 18 to commit prostitution.
However, attempting to prostitute an 8 year old is particularly egregious, and I'm hopeful prosecutors are able to bring about several charges. The Collin County Sheriff's Office made the arrest, and I agree with Sheriff Jim Skinner's statement (via FOX News):
This arrest illustrates how despicable and depraved that those involved in human trafficking are. This case is a prime example of why the Child Exploitation Unit was created. I’m very proud of the combined effort of CEU and our law enforcement partners for bringing Frost to justice.
Despicable and depraved, indeed. Imagine ruining a child's innocence and likely causing them injury or perhaps even death for a measly $800.
This doesn't appear to be Frost's first attempt at ill-gotten funds. I was able to find folks warning others not to deal with him in an East Texas Coin Group. Anything to avoid making money honestly, I suppose.
This case highlights the horror of human trafficking. We don't yet know how this man (allegedly) had access to this child -- whether a relative, the child of a friend or even a homeless or kidnapped child trafficked from elsewhere. It's my sincere hope that this child, in spite of their circumstances, receives the help they need to overcome what must be nearly insurmountable trauma.
