Over 80 Dead in Kerr County Flooding—Here’s How to Help
(Mix 93-1) What happened in the western portion of Central Texas this past 4th of July is truly devastating and heartbreaking on so many levels.
The death toll now stands at more than 80 lives lost (at the time of this writing) from flood waters that swept through and devastated areas of Kerr County, Texas, and others along the Guadalupe River.
Among the dead are 68 in Kerr County, including 28 children.
The Human Toll of the Kerr County Floods
In times like this, we all come together as humans to do whatever we can to help those in need and to help those families that have lost so much.
The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. Volunteers from around the state, nation, and world are coming together to help locate those flood victims who are still missing.
While the need to help out is there, there are a lot of boots on the ground, and if you're looking to help out, you can make a monetary donation to a reputable charitable organization who do an excellent job of distributing those funds.
Trusted Organizations Accepting Donations
Donations to organizations like Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and TEXSTAR are distributed to legitimate organizations that have gone through a vetting process.
There are many other reputable local organizations you can donate too, just be aware and do your research on these charities.

In giving to rescue and relief funds, you need to be aware of who you're giving to and where that money is going. So often, after a natural disaster, fraudulent organizations appear after disasters to take advantage of generous Texans and never offer help to those who really need it.
How to Avoid Donation Scams After a Disaster
- Only donate to verified GoFundMe pages
- avoid untraceable payment methods
- don't feel pressured to give
- give directly to the source - official website, not just a link in an email
- be specific about where you want your funds to go

While we want to help out, we must be vigilant in who we give our money to so that it goes to the right place. Always research the charity you are going to donate to because there will be hundreds of potential scammers looking to take advantage of your generosity.
