The Texas Attorney General's Office on Thursday announced that two millions eggs would be heading to Texas as part of a settlement with Cal-Maine Foods. Cal-Maine Foods is one of the nations largest egg suppliers and have been accused of price gouging during the pandemic.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Brings Home The Eggs

According to the Dallas Morning News, Paxton announced the settlement with Cal-Maine Foods. The settlement includes 2 million eggs that will be donated to food banks across Texas. The State of Texas had alleged that Cal-Maine Foods has illegally increased the price of eggs by up to 300% during the pandemic.

The North Texas and Houston Food Banks will each get about 30,000 dozen eggs. Other food banks in Tarrant, Austin, and San Antonio will receive 20,000 dozen eggs. Smaller towns will get staggered amounts depending on need.

In a statement, Paxton said the agreement will send a message to other corporations.

“My office will crack down on any corporation illegally raising prices on Texans,” stated Paxton. “Cal-Maine tried to take advantage of the people of Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this settlement is an important step towards securing justice for the company’s unethical actions.”

Eggs are expected to be delivered in the next 120 days according to the report.
