Jarrett Culver Is On The Move To The Memphis Grizzlies
Former Coronado Mustang and Texas Tech Red Raider Jarrett Culver was drafted 6th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019. His first two NBA seasons were a struggle. There were obvious highlights, but injuries, the roster makeup in Minnesota, and a global pandemic hindered Culver's development early.
Now, Culver is on the move, after being traded by the Timberwolves to the Memphis Grizzlies for Patrick Beverly. Juancho Hernangomez will join Culver in Memphis according to ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
As a rookie, Culver played 24 minutes a game and looked like a solid piece for the future of a young Timberwolves squad. Then, the Timberwolves drafted Anthony Edwards and Culver's minutes were cut nearly in half. With the minute reduction came an obvious reduction in production. Though, Culver managed to improve his rebounding and kept his scoring consistent per 100 possessions regardless of minutes played.
He's improving, he just needs to be on the floor to prove that. Culver will also get to play with one of the best point guards in the league in Ja Morant who carried the Grizzlies to the NBA playoffs as the 8 seed last season.
In bonus former Red Raiders in the NBA news, Jahmi'us Ramsey has led the Sacramento Kings to the Las Vegas Summer League championship game going 4-0 and averaging 16-plus points per game in the process. Ramsey has shown his scoring ability at all three levels but has excelled from deep and with dunks. His two specialties while at Texas Tech.
